Mayor: Vote your choice based upon the facts

Bookmark and Share

One year and five months ago I was elected as your mayor.  During this time I have listened to your concerns, learned of your needs, attended any and every board and committee and organization meeting that I was invited and a few that I was not invited.  I answered your questions or directed you to the right person or found the answer, gave you my opinion if you asked and sometimes if you didn’t ask.  I gave you explanations of why some things were done and others not done and I was always truthful, even if you didn’t like hearing those words.

Mark SpradlinI have used the office of mayor to help raise funds for organizations in the city and I have volunteered as much as possible to assist anyone asking for help.  I did all of this to make sure I could make the proper decisions and give proper guidance and direction when asked.  There have been challenges and it has been exciting.  I have made a commitment to do the best job possible and learn as much as I could to better serve this city and its citizens.  Now we have a challenge before us that is not easily understood.

I will first say that I do not like threats to try to make me vote one way or the other.  Fear is a great motivator but I believe the simple truth is even better.  So push those threats aside so that you can focus on what you need to focus on.

You have heard from people that want to “stir the pot” and “make people think” as well as people that have no stake in this process but still want to weigh in on the discussion.  This is a very important issue for the City of Guthrie and every voice deserves to be heard.  But make sure that emotions are not the ruling factor in this matter.  Learn the facts, listen to the facts, make your own mind up based on what you hear and learn.  There are plenty of people out there that are willing to share facts from both sides of the discussion.  Find them, talk to them, and learn from them.

The bottom line is to vote and to vote your choice based upon the facts you have learned on all the issues at hand.
