Mobile home fills with smoke; home appears to be a total loss

A family emotionally watched their home fill up with smoke Monday evening when a fire broke out in a bedroom.

Fire 02182013Guthrie Fire Department, along with Oak Cliff and Sooner, responded to Family Circle, near Pine and Prarire Grove, for a mobile home fire at around 6:45 p.m. and worked until 8:30 p.m.

According to Fire Chief Eric Harlow, the fire started in the southwest corner of the home in a bedroom. Harlow says the fire appears to be caused by an overloaded extension cord being used to power a bedroom.

Everyone was able to get out safely and no injuries were reported at the scene. In additon, the American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

The fire chief estimates $20,000 in damages and due to the structural damage, the mobile home is considered a total loss but many belongings were saved other than being smoke damaged.
