Voters in Mulhall will head to the polls on Tuesday, June 18, to determine the fate of a proposed sales tax increase. This decision comes after the Town of Mulhall approved an ordinance and resolution in March, which set the stage for this pivotal vote.
The proposed increase seeks to raise the town’s sales tax by an additional 1%, elevating the current rate from 3% to 4%. If approved, the new tax rate would go into effect on October 1, 2024.
The ballot language is as follows:
“Shall Ordinance No. 2024-01 of the Town of Mulhall, Oklahoma, which levies and assesses a one percent (1.00%) excise (sales) tax on all taxable sales within the Town, in addition to all other municipal, county or state sales taxes now collected, to begin on and after October 1, 2024, and continuing thereafter until lawfully repealed, with the proceeds of the tax to be accumulated, earmarked and expended, both principal and interest, and used to support the functions of municipal government of the Town of Mulhall, Oklahoma, and as further stated in Ordinance No. 2024-01, subject to voter approval and authorizing the officials to take all necessary actions to impose and collect the tax and implement the ordinance, be approved?”
The proposed tax increase aims to bolster the town’s financial resources, ensuring adequate funding for various municipal functions. The Board emphasized the importance of this measure for sustaining and enhancing local services and infrastructure.
The polling location will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 18 at Mulhall Town Hall located at 120 Baty.
