Watch: GHS students witness DUI mock wreck in powerful safety simulation

A powerful and sobering lesson unfolded for Guthrie High School juniors and seniors on Wednesday as Guthrie FFA, Guthrie Public Schools, and local emergency responders came together to conduct a mock DUI wreck simulation.

The simulation, designed to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, took place in the high school parking lot.

The realistic demonstration involved full participation from several local agencies. Guthrie Fire Department provided ambulance and rescue services, while Survival Flight landed a helicopter and transported an “injured” student to Logan County Mercy Hospital. Hayes Funeral Home handled the “deceased” actor, further driving home the emotional impact of the scenario.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Terry Hinkle arrested the mock DUI offender and conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) as students watched the legal consequences unfold in real time.

Other agencies playing a role include the Guthrie Police Department, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Logan County Dispatch, and FFA Advisor Clay Drake narrated the scene for the student audience.

This simulation underscores the life-altering consequences that impaired driving can have, and organizers hope it leaves a lasting impression on students as they prepare for prom, graduation, and the summer months ahead.
