Melinda Murillo gave the spark that was needed and her teammates followed her lead as the Guthrie Lady Jays captured a conference road win Friday evening in Oklahoma City.

Murillo’s game high 17 points, including 8 in the first quarter, helped lead the way to a 45-28 win over Western Heights. The Lady Jays were an impressive 10 for 12 from the free throw line.

Guthrie jumped out to a 10-1 lead to start the game and never once did trail. However, Heights was able to pull within 2-points (17-15), but the Lady Jays erupted in the third quarter and out scored Heights 16-4 in the frame.

Gracynn Smith gave the scoring column a boost with 11 points and finished with a double-double.

Guthrie improves their season record to 6-11 and have won three of their last four games while Heights falls to 6-12 this season.

The Lady Jays will travel to Midwest City on Tuesday and take on Carl Albert.
