According to just filed lobbyist reports, local State Rep. Jason Murphey and Senator Anthony Sykes (R-Moore) were the two of 149 legislators to reject all gifts from lobbyists during the recently concluded legislative session.
Murphey once again successfully avoided the gauntlet of lobbyist gift giving during the 2013 session in order to remain compliant with his ongoing pledge to refuse lobbyist directed gifts and campaign contributions.
Each year, lobbyists offer legislators thousands of dollars in paid meals and tickets to local entertainment venues. “These events provide lobbyists with substantial time and access to legislators, but the same access is not so easily available to hard-working citizens whose lives are impacted by legislative votes,” Murphey explained.
“I refuse these gifts because I want to make it clear that everyone has equal access to my time, regardless of their ability to buy things for me.”
