Guthrie High School wrestling had one of their most successful seasons in recent memory and a big part of that was Dennis Murphy.
Murphy, who wrestled in the 152 pound division, finished his senior campaign with an impressive 30-9 record and was just one match away from wrestling in the state finals.
His talents and work ethic will allow him to move to the college mat. Murphy has earned and accepted a scholarship to wrestle for Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas.
Murphy and the BlueJays finished fourth in the 5A state tournament and sent a total of seven wrestlers to the 90th Oklahoma High School Wrestling Championships.
PCC is a member of the highly competitive NJCAA Region VI and Jayhawk West Conference. The Beavers are coached by Ken Kepley and sent four wrestlers this season to nationals in Spokane.
“The future looks bright for the Beavers as we return three of the four wrestlers that competed at the National Tournament,” Kepley said. “We look for big things out of some of the guys that red-shirted this year in hopes of bringing home some hardware next year.”
Murphy is the son of Phil and Tonya Nichols.
