Neighborhood Solutions to paint local food bank

Fresh Paint Days, a Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) program designed to encourage volunteers to seek out community structures and renovate them with the creative use of resources begins in September as Neighborhood Solutions renovates God’s Food Bank.

Located at 402 W Vilas in a residential and commercial area sits the new location for God’s Food Bank. This new location is being remodeled and is in need of fresh coat of paint.

“The building will need a complete exterior paint job, and will greatly improve the image of God’s Food Bank and the surrounding neighborhood,” said Joe Burkett, Neighborhood Solutions Renovation Coordinator.

Neighborhood Solutions, a Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Affiliate, participated in the paint program last year. “We painted a huge building last year that is used as a food kitchen in a depressed neighborhood in Guthrie,” said Burkett. Because of the organizations past participation, they understand the positive impact of a fresh coat of paint.

The group will have 30 days to complete their projects using donated paint from H.I.S Coatings of Oklahoma City and a stipend from Public Service Company of Oklahoma.

Neighborhood Solutions will be one of 40 groups competing for the “Best Visual Impact Award” via KOB social media contest, ‘Communities Primed for Change.’ Finalists will be chosen based on their ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos. Winners will be announced at the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful 25th Annual Environmental Excellence Awards Celebration on November 30, 2015.

This year Keep Oklahoma Beautiful is celebrating 50 years as a statewide nonprofit with a mission to empower Oklahoma citizens to preserve and enhance the state’s natural beauty and ensure a healthy, sustainable environment.
