Oak Cliff Fire Department receives improved fire ISO rating of 2

While Christmas is still days away, residents who live in the Oak Cliff fire district received an early gift when it comes to perhaps lower insurance rates in 2022.

The Oak Cliff Fire Department will now be graded as a Class 2 Fire Department effective February 1, 2022.

The department’s previous rating was an ISO Class 5.

The all volunteer Oak Cliff Fire Protection District was created in 1982. The primary coverage for the southern Logan County fire department is Seward Road to the south between Interstate 35 and Pennsylvania Ave.

Fire departments are graded on a score of 1-10, with 1 being the highest achievable score. The Class 2 rating will apply to areas within five road miles of a fire station and 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant. Areas within five road miles of a fire station but not within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant will be Class 3. Any areas outside of both, would be considered Class 10.

“We are excited to have the hard work and dedication of our firefighters reflected in this new score,” a spokesperson said in a press release. “Oak Cliff strives to provide the best care, service, and commitment through our full time and volunteer staff.”

In the US, approximately 40,000 fire departments/districts are graded with less than 400 graded as a Class 1 and less than 2000 graded as Class 2, according to the OCFD release. The department added they are among the top 5% of departments nationwide in ISO score.

With this new score, most businesses and homeowners within the Oak Cliff Fire District could see a reduction in their insurance costs. To find out if you could see a reduction, contact your insurance provider.
