Update Feb. 3, 2015 at 9 a.m. — A family member notified Guthrie News Page that the teen involved in the downtown shooting with an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has died.
OHP confirmed with Guthrie News Page, on Tuesday morning, that Kenneth Joe Brown died due to his injuries.
The family member informed GNP, on Monday, that Brown died on Sunday evening.
Brown, 18, was shot twice by Trooper Caleb Swickey following a traffic stop near Harrison Ave. and Wentz St.
Update Tuesday at 2:50 — OHP is now confirming suspect Kenneth Joe Brown had a 9 mm handgun during a pat down. This is when the altercation between the two occurred. Guthrie News Page reported Brown had a weapon on his person late Sunday night.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation now has the gun to be processed.
Trooper Swickey remains on routine paid administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
Update Monday at 5:25 — Suspect Kenneth Joe Brown is listed in critical condition at OU Medical Center.
Lt. John Vincent, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, says Trooper Swickey made the correct decision when he discharged his firearm striking Brown.
Trooper Caleb Swickey is on paid administrative leave, pending the on-going investigation.
Update Monday at 3:30 — The trooper and suspect have been identified.
Trooper Caleb Swickey, who has been with the OHP for seven years. Kenneth Joe Brown, 18, is the suspect’s name.
Update Sunday at 11:23 — OHP Captain Paul Timmons tells Guthrie News Page it is unknown why the suspect was originally pulled over by the trooper, but says the suspect did have a weapon on his person.
Timmons went on to say there was a physical altercation between the suspect and trooper.
No other details available at this time.
Original Story on Sunday at 10 pm — Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a trooper involved shooting in downtown Guthrie.
OHP is currently not answering questions at this time. They are working the investigation and will have an update when possible.
The shooting took place just west of the Logan County Courthouse on Harrison Ave.
It is unknown at this time why the suspect was pulled over by the trooper.
The suspect has been airlifted to OU Medical Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Guthrie News Page has learned the suspect was shot twice, but law enforcement is not confirming that at this time.
OHP currently has Harrison Ave. blocked off from Broad St to Wentz St. as they conduct their investigation.
