OHP recruiting for qualified applicants for 63rd Academy

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is participating in an aggressive recruitment campaign in an attempt to raise the number of qualified applicants for the 63rd OHP Academy, which is tentatively scheduled to begin January 28, 2015. 

OHP“The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety wants to continue providing the citizens of Oklahoma with the very best service. In order to provide that high level of quality service, we must recruit large numbers of qualified applicants to fill these state trooper positions,” stated DPS Commissioner Michael C. Thompson.

To be considered for employment as a state trooper, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 21 years of age, but no older than 45 at the start of the academy. They must pass a rigorous background check, possess an Associate’s degree or have completed a minimum of 62 college credit hours from an accredited college or university, or have a combination of 32 college credit hours plus three (3) years active or reserve U.S. military service, or 32 college credit hours with an honorable discharge from any active or reserve U.S. military branch before the academy starts. Applicants with U.S. military service shall receive up to ten (10) semester hours for each year of honorable service in any of the active or reserve U.S. military branches – up to a maximum of three (3) years or thirty (30) credit hours.

Colonel Ricky Adams, Chief of Patrol said, “We seek quality applicants to fill our ranks within the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. We’re looking for men and women of high moral character who possess a strong interest in serving the public, and a desire to be one of the State’s elite law enforcement professionals.”
