Out building catches fire; fire chief discourages outdoor burning

Three fire departments were needed to extinguish an out building fire on Friday afternoon. Woodcrest Fire Chief Luke Young is encouraging caution when it comes to outdoor burning.

Woodcrest, Oak Cliff and Sooner fire departments protected a home just 15 feet away from the out building, which saw flames throughout the structure. In addition, three-fourths of an acre was burned.

The fire broke out just before 3:30 p.m. on Homestead Drive – located east of the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Simmons Road.

Young says the fire started as a control burn, but quickly got out of control and spread to the out building.

“While there isn’t a burn ban currently in effect, we strongly discourage anyone from outdoor burning, Young said.

The chief reminds citizens they are responsible for any possible damage.

“Remember you are responsible for any and all damage caused by a fire you light, intentional or accidental.”

Perhaps some minor relief is on the way with expected showers on Sunday throughout Logan County.
