The Guthrie boys basketball team was finally back on their home floor with over a month away, but it was Piedmont who made themselves right at home Thursday evening.
In a game that was originally set for February, but postponed due to the winter weather, Piedmont drove past the Jays in a 51-35 win. The Jays have now lost seven of their last nine games and are now 9-11 overall and 6-5 in the Suburban Conference. Piedmont improved to 18-4.
Guthrie took their first lead at 11-10 with 6:40 to play in the second quarter, but their only lead lasted just 60 seconds. Guthrie took the lead thanks in part of a 7-0 run highlighted by junior Codee Gross’s five points. Piedmont, however, responded with their own run to open the game.
The Wildcats finished the first half with a 12-2 run to take a 9-point lead into the locker room, but the run continued into the third quarter. After it was all said and done, Piedmont had gone on a 17-2 run to push their lead up to 14 points, 27-13. Piedmont out scored Guthrie 24-12 the rest of the way.
The BlueJays will look to get back in the win column when they host Chickasha Friday night for Senior Night before wrapping up the season Saturday evening with a home game with El Reno.
