Playoff position on the line this week for Lady Jays

Bookmark and Share

With two games remaining this week for the Guthrie softball team, it will come down to a .500 regular season record as well as where the Lady Jays will be playing next week for regionals.

With a heart-breaking 2-1 home loss to Deer Creek on Tuesday evening, in 12 innings, the Lady Jays overall record fell to 16-18, but continue to hold on to third place in district play.

The 14th ranked Jays team will host Western Heights (6-18) Thursday before ending the season at McGuinness (16-11) on Friday. Guthrie will be favored to win both games and with two wins will captured third place behind Carl Albert and Deer Creek.

Shawnee (22-11), currently fourth in district, will also be favored in their two games with McGuinness and El Reno. Despite winning two-of-three games with Guthrie, the eighth ranked Lady Wolves will need some help in delivering a loss to the Lady Jays to jump them in the final district standings.

Official regional announcements are expected on Monday.

If Guthrie finishes third in the 5A-1 district it is expected they will travel to Duncan (20-11) for the double elimination four-team regional tournament. A fourth place district finish will likely send the Lady Jays to Lawton MacArthur (20-11).
