The students and staff of Guthrie Junior High School will host the second annual Color Run in honor of Lexi Hastings. The run will be held on April 7 at 9 a.m. to raise money for their LEARN2LOVE initiative.
Hastings passed away suddenly in 2017. The 19-year-old was a graduate from Guthrie High School and earned a cross country scholarship at Northwestern State University.
“LEARN2LOVE is a program we started to help students in any way that we can, whether it be classroom supplies, shoes, clothes, coats, or anything else that may meet a student’s needs,” GJHS Principal Robbie Rainwater said.
“We were able to start our food pantry through the LEARN2LOVE program that serves close to 50 students per week. It is a true testament to the kind, giving and servant spirit that Lexi possessed.”
RUN4LEXI is a 5K run, walk or jog that will start at the Junior High. In addition, there will be a one mile fun run for kids or anyone else who may not be able to participate in the 5k.
The 5k race registration is $30 and $20 for the one mile. Late registration fees increase $5 each.
Along the route, participants pass through vibrant color zones, making it a “colorful experience.”
“Rather than sell goods, we want to engage the entire student body and community in a fitness initiative that aims to encourage a life-long healthy way of living,” Junior High teach Tina Ogle said.
Participants that register by March 24 will receive a t-shirt, race bib and individual color packet.
You can sign up for the run by visiting www.eventbrite.com or by completing a paper registration form.
Business sponsorship opportunities are also available.
