Rhonda Gillett continues to touch young lives inside her Guthrie classroom, but recently she became the first Oklahoman to gain national recognition from a major retailer for her efforts outside the classroom.
Gillett was awarded the Shining Star award from Kirkland’s – a national home décor retail chain specializing in furnishings, accessories and gifts – for going above and beyond and being a true asset to the company.
Gillett, who works at the Edmond location, became the first person from Oklahoma to earn the Shining Star achievement. Despite working only one night a week, Gillett ranks among the best in the company’s K-Club.
In the chain’s national magazine, a spokesperson said, “Rhonda is a teacher and only works a few nights a week, but she makes a big impact in our store. Our customers love her and her dedication to them. She has taken on the task of helping train our new team members.”
Gillett, who is a pre-k teacher for Guthrie Public Schools, has taught for 18 years, including 17 in the Guthrie district.
