RV and house fire may be result of arson; man attempts to burn his hair

Guthrie police and fire are attempting to determine if a RV and house fire were the result of arson. A possible suspect was found shortly later after he attempted to set his hair on fire near Wal Mart.

Emergency crews responded to the 900 block of W. Mansur after 9 p.m. on Tuesday. A police officer arrived quickly and alerted fire officials the fire from the RV had spread to a nearby home and both were fully-involved.

The fire department, along with assistance from Deer Creek and Sooner fire departments, extinguished the flames, but was told by neighbors that a man was seen living in the RV.

Approximately a hour later, police and fire were called to Wal Mart for a person who attempted to set his hair on fire.

A Logan County deputy spotted the male suspect and that’s when he took off on foot. The suspect was taken into custody a short distance later behind a shopping center.

The suspect was found to have singed hair and wounds to his hands.

A small area of grass was found burnt near Wal Mart and was extinguished before fire crews could arrive.

A family member says the suspect may have set the fire on the west side.

The suspect was taken into protective custody and transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
