Film crews began filing into Guthrie and particularly the Scottish Rite Temple on Friday to begin shooting a scientific, action/drama movie called Higher Mission.

Crews will continue to shoot for several days at the Temple before coming back next month to finish some of the final outdoor scenes.

The synopsis of the 3D movie revolves around a United States highly respected senator, John Perryman as he gets a higher calling from superior forces above. Through his dreams, he is given an important mission: to expose and to warn the corrupted government of Russia by delivering the divine message to the Russian Parliament members. In his shocking speech, Perryman cautions all the politicians to stop taking bribes or else the superior forces will literally turn them into rats.

Well-known producer Gray Frederickson, a University of Oklahoma graduate and resident of Oklahoma City, is overlooking the film and told Guthrie News Page that Guthrie is a great place to work and produce movies.

“I love Guthrie. It’s a great place to work. It has a little bit of everything here,” Frederickson said, who his now using the historic Guthrie building for his fifth film.

Frederickson has served as production manager and producer on several films such as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly starring Clint Eastwood. Frederickson helped produced The Outsiders, The GodFather, LadyBugs and South of Heaven, West of Hell. Just recently, Frederickson, won an Emmy for producing “Dream No Little Dream, The Life and Times of Robert S. Kerr”.

Casper Van Dien and Catherine Oxenberg will star in the movie.

The movie’s director, Vladimir Uglichin, approached Frederickson about shooting the film in Russia since the movie deals with Russian Parliament members and a majority of the actors are from Russia, but Frederickson said the historic Guthrie building (Masonic Temple) looks like something you would see in Russia.

Crew members are using several of the rooms inside the Temple, which is one of the world’s largest Masonic Centers, and turning them into bedrooms, sitting rooms and other associated themes with the movie.

The star of the show is Casper Van Dien, who got the breakthrough role of Johnny Rico in  the 1997 science fiction action film Starship Troopers. His wife, Catherine Oxenberg, will co-star with him and will play his wife on the screen.

Oxenberg is perhaps best known for her performance as Amanda Carrington on the 1980s American prime time soap opera Dynasty. Oxenberg is the daughter of Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia, Oxenberg, though not noble or royal herself, is a descendant from the Serbian house of Karađorđević.
