Senator A.J. Griffin endorses Republican Jill Tontz for District Attorney

State Senator A.J. Griffin has announced her endorsement of Republican Jill Tontz in the upcoming election for District Attorney in the 9th Judicial District (Payne and Logan Counties). The Primary Election will be held in June and the General Election in November 2018.

Tontz is challenging incumbent DA Laura Thomas.

“I’ve known Jill and her family for many years, and I have the upmost faith in her,” Senator Griffin said in a statement.

“Jill is a talented lawyer who worked as a prosecutor in Payne and Logan Counties for many years. She handled challenging cases and effectively worked to keep our communities safe,” Griffin said. “She has a real passion for helping the most vulnerable in our society, and she’s been a strong voice for children who had been abused and neglected.”

“Jill grew up in Guthrie and graduated from Guthrie High School. Having worked in the DA offices in both Guthrie and Stillwater, Jill understands the dynamics of our area but also the differences and unique needs of our communities. Jill will be a fantastic DA, and I’m proud to support her,” Griffin said.

Tontz thanked Senator Griffin for her support and explained why she is running.

“In early 2017 I began to see a need for change in the District Attorney’s Office,” Tontz said. “I saw campaign promises not fulfilled, gross mismanagement, and, most importantly, that justice was not pursued on behalf of the citizens in our District.”

“The District Attorney’s office is in desperate need of leadership, heart and a true passion for caring about those that are victimized in our communities,” Tontz said. “I am running to restore a sense of respect, purpose, hard work, and ethics to this office, and I’m asking for the support of every citizen to help achieve these goals.”
