Sheriff’s Office warns citizens about a criminal trend

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is using social media to warn home owners and residents about a trend that has been occurring in the county over the last several days.

Burglars are taking garage door openers from un-locked vehicles, opening the garage, and entering the homes of victims. Officials refer to this as the “door popper” trend.

They go on to say the crime has taken place many times while victims are sleeping. Not only do the suspects come into the home, but officials say they are “brazen” enough to enter bedrooms of the victims. This type of crime is nothing new, but once again has become an issue with multiple cases being recorded recently.

The Sheriff’s Office urges residents of all areas to not leave their vehicles unlocked, leave valuables in the vehicle, leave garage door openers inside the vehicle or leave the door from the garage into your home unlocked at night. Furthermore, it’s also important to ensure your garage door is secured and working properly. We often hear of a lot of people acknowledging that their garage door is broken, but residents choose to ignore this problem as they don’t see an urgent reason behind getting it repaired. Without a doubt, if you’re in Chester Springs Pennsylvania you can contact Kings Garage Doors to get this issue rectified immediately. As a consequence of this trend of criminals breaking into houses through the garage door, it’s advised that more homeowners get their garage door repaired and maintained to ensure their house is as secure as possible, lowering the chances of an intruder getting into their home. For those homeowners who have a garage door that needs repairing, now is the time to do so. Homeowners should really get a quote for a garage door repair service as soon as possible to ensure they keep their family and possessions safe.

The social media post asks home owners to use their alarm systems and report any unusual occurrences in your neighborhood. Residents need to take extra security measures to keep themselves safe. If any residents do see anything out of the ordinary, it’s vital to inform the local Sherrif’s department and report these activities.

The Sheriff’s Office is providing intensive residential patrols at night in an effort to prevent these types of crimes from occurring.
