Six registered earthquakes rattle Guthrie

Guthrie has seen its fair share of earthquakes over the last several days, but Sunday and early Monday there were some doozies that several felt miles away. A total of six registered quakes in 10 hours.

seismographThe U.S. Geological Survey reported the first and largest quake at a 3.8-magnitude that happened at 10:54 p.m. The depth of the quake was over three miles down.

Originally, USGS reported a 4.2, but has since downgraded to a 3.8.

The epicenter was about six miles south-southwest of Guthrie near Liberty Lake. The same area where several smaller quakes have been registered since Friday evening.

A second quake registered a 2.9 at 11:30 p.m. This earth rattler was centered near I-35 and Seward Road to the west.

A third quake registered a 3.0 at 11:39 p.m. This time the center was between Liberty Lake and Coltrane Road.

A fourth tremor was registered in Edmond at 2:23 a.m. This time a 2.7 hit between Santa Fe and Western and to the north of Charter Oak.

The fifth and second largest quake of the six occurred at 6:57 a.m. near the intersection of Simpson and Coltrane.

The sixth quake hit a 2:24 a.m. and registered at 2.7 between Broadway and Santa Fe and to the north of Camp Dr.

Several aftershocks and booms could be heard between the six registered quakes.

In the past 24 hours there were a total of 29 earthquakes in the world that registered at least a 2.5 and six of those occurred in Logan County and five in Guthrie.

On Saturday, a quake was recorded at a 3.5.
