Softball opens season with 8-7 win over 6A Wolves

The Mike Lowe softball era is officially underway in Guthrie.

The Lady Jays opened their season with an 8-7 road victory over Edmond Santa Fe on Friday.

The Dean sisters are expected to fill major roles this season and they did not disappoint in game one.

Hannah Dean collected the win in the circle, while younger sister Karrah finished the night with five runs batted in.

Guthrie, coming off a 2015 state tournament appearance, trailed 2-0, but got on the scoreboard and in the lead when Karrah Dean blasted a ball to the outfield wall – just missing a home run – clearing the once loaded bases.

First year head coach Lowe and the Lady Jays will be back in action this week and will be big favorites over Southeast and Guymon.

The first home game will be district games with Southeast and the following day Guthrie will travel to Guymon for two more district games.
