Tennis teams travel to Tulsa for quad match

The Guthrie tennis programs travel to Tulsa for a four-way match with Booker T Washington, Grove and Tulsa Edison.

The Bluejays took on Booker T. in the first match and was able to capture one win in four matches.

Andy Hartley played No. 1 singles and lost 6-0, 6-1. Jacob Ventris played No. 2 singles and lost to Senator Inhofe’s grandson Cole Inhofe 6-0, 6-0. Adam Beery and Dakota Leech played No. 1 doubles and won 6-1, 6-2. Joe Kuruvilla nd Brandon LaMarche played No. 2 doubles and lost 6-0, 6-0

The next round Guthrie was paired with Tulsa Edison.

Dakota Leech played No. 1 singles and lost 6-0, 6-1. Joe Kuruvilla played No. 2 singles and won 7-5, 7-5. Adam Beery and Andy Hartley lost in three sets 7-6, 4-6, 5-10. Brandon LaMarche and Jacob Ventris played No. 2 doubles and lost 6-1, 6-2.

In the third round the Jays took on Grove.

Adam Beery played No. 1 singles and lost 6-2, 6-3. Brandon LaMarche played No. 2 singles and lost 6-2, 6-4. Andy Hartley and Dakota Leech won at No. 1 doubles and the score was 6-2, 6-0. Joe Kurvulla and Jacob Ventris played No. 2 doubles and lost 6-3, 6-1.

For the Lady Jays, they also faced Booker T., Edison and Grove in order.

Against the Hornets, Cheyenne Royal was defeated by the No. 1 player in the state 6-0, 6-0.

Ryan Robbins played well against a girl who was state champion at #1 doubles last year but lost 6-3, 6-1. Jillian Chappell and Carissa Mathena defeated their No. 1 Doubles team 6-1, 6-2. Sarah Howells and Heidi Kuruvilla defeated BTW No. 2 doubles team 6-1, 6-0.

Then in the second round the Lady Jays played Tulsa Edison and got off to a great start when Cheyenne Royal won 6-0, 6-0. Ryan Robbins did not play the Edison girl because she was in a three-hour match against Grove and it did not work out to play. Jillian Chappell and Carissa Mathena won their match 6-1, 6-1. Sarah Howells and Heidi Kuruvilla won their match 6-0, 6-1

In the third and final match against Grove, Cheyenne Royal lost her match  7-6, 6-1. Ryan Robbins won her match in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. Chappell and Mathena won their match 6-2, 6-2. Howells and Kuruvilla won their match 6-2, 6-0
