Tire blowout leads to fatality accident on Highway 74

A woman was killed Sunday evening after a tire blew out on a vehicle in Logan County. The accident also injured two adults and two juveniles.

The crash happened at 9:21 p.m. on Highway 74 approximately one mile north of Highway 33 near the Cimarron River Bridge.

According to the crash report, a 1991 Chevy Silverado was northbound on Highway 74, while a 2020 Nissan Versa was traveling southbound. The front driver side of the Silverado’s tire blew out causing the vehicle to go left of center entering oncoming lanes and striking the Versa head on.

The passenger in the Versa, 58-year-old Virginia Hill of Edmond, was transported to Mercy Hospital Logan County, mediflighted to OU Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Versa, a 22-year-old female from Harrah, was admitted in fair condition at OU Medical Center.

The driver of the Silverado, a 36-year-old man, was transported to Baptist Hospital and later released following additional medical attention.

The juveniles, ages 12 and 16, both passengers in the Silverado, were transported and admitted at OU Children’s Hospital. Both were not wearing seatbelts, but were admitted in good condition.
