It was one of the largest attended games in recent times for the Guthrie baseball program and it was a great game. Well, until the fifth inning for the royal blue and white.
Large crowds usually come together when Guthrie hooks up with Carl Albert, but it was more than a rival match-up as it matched the second and fourth ranked teams in 5A.
The Titans separated themselves from the Jays when they crossed 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead into a 15-2 stomp. Carl Albert improves to 10-1 while Guthrie has their 5-game win streak snapped and fall to 9-2.
Despite leaving 9 runners on base, the Titans were able to collect 14 hits on four different right-handed pitchers for the Jays. Starter Blaze Hastings took his first loss of the year. Meanwhile, Randy Allen collected the win by allowing two runs (one earned).
Senior Luke Davis was the spark at the plate with his first home run of the season and finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Fellow seniors Hayden Seifert Scott Pickle and Clint Simek each were 1-for-2 on the day.
The Jays must quickly put the non-district game behind them as they entertain both Chandler and Kingfisher on Saturday.
