The City of Guthrie adopted a resolution in their latest city council meeting to partner with the state for traffic signals at Interstate 35 and Highway 33. The design portion of the project is currently underway.

Highway 33With the agreement, the Department of Transportation (ODOT) will install the traffic signal lights on the east and west sides of the interstate bridge for the north and southbound on/off ramps. ODOT agrees that 100 percent of state or federal funds will be used for the signal engineering and construction costs.

The City will be responsible for any additional right-of-way necessary for construction and will pay all expenses with relocating utilities that may come into conflict with the construction. In addition, the City will be responsible for maintenance and operation of the signal lights.

Guthrie City Manager Sereniah Breland says the installation of the lights is expected to begin in the Spring of 2015.

Earlier this month, the City annexed the area for ownership and maintenance agreement for the installation.
