Three people died and a fourth person is in critical condition following a Christmas Day vehicle accident in southern Logan County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Broadway northbound at Simmons Road approximately one mile north of Edmond.

Troopers say just after 6 p.m., a 2004 Cadillac Deville driven by 47-year-old Joseph R. Sauer, of Edmond, was southbound, crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2019 Honda CR-V in the northbound lane.

The three people in the vehicle heading north were killed.

Inside the CR-V was 70-year-old Douglas L. Barnes, 83-year-old, Madeleine J. Walker and 54-year-old Suzanne M. Barnes. All three, from Edmond, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sauer, who was ejected an unknown distance, was transported to a hospital in critical condition with head, trunk internal and external, arm and leg injuries.

Multiple reports say troopers believe Sauer may have been intoxicated, but is pending an investigation.
