Trista LeGrande continues family tradition; signs to play college tennis

Trista LeGrande will continue what several of her family members have already done. At the same time, take on tennis at the collegiate level. LeGrande signed her letter on Tuesday morning.

Inside the Guthrie High School library, LeGrande made it official as she signed with Southern Nazarene University with family and friends surrounding her.

LeGrande’s parents, Chris and Sharolyn, and other family members hold degrees from the college in Bethany.

“We have had a couple of great years in tennis and a lot of that is because of Trista Mae. She always handled situations with grace and never quit,” head coach Mary Hudson said.

To back Hudson’s theory, LeGrande fought off an illness with fever and chills, but was able to overcome and qualified for state.

“She’s a true competitor.”

LeGrande played a key factor in the Lady Jays softball team, who advance to the state tournament for the first time in nearly two decades. She proved to be a staple in the outfield and led the team in singles from the leadoff spot.
