One member of the Guthrie BlueJays golf team scored well enough to qualify for this year’s 5A state tournament. Senior Tyler Porter shot rounds of 83 and 87 at the West Regional on the John Conrad course in Midwest City on Monday.

Tyler PorterPorter, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in January, has continued to excel despite the setback.

During his senior year he has been a member of the Jays cross country team, the only band member from Guthrie to all-state (trumpet) and is set to attend Oklahoma State University as he will leave GHS with high academic excellence, including being name a valedictorian.

If that was not enough, Porter competed in his first marathon (26.2 miles) at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon two weeks ago.

A tee-time has not been set for the state tournament that will be played in Shawnee on Monday.
