Video: DA will seek the death penalty in the case against fallen LCSO Deputy Wade

The man seen in a body camera shooting and killing a Logan County deputy could be facing the death penalty, according to Logan County District Attorney Laura Austin-Thomas.

With the courtroom filled with over 30 police officers from three different counties and the family of fallen Logan County Deputy David Wade sitting in the front row, Nathan Leforce, 45, was the center of attention in what was held back anger.

Leforce was charged with three counts, including murder in the first degree, larceny of a motor vehicle and armed robbery in the first degree. If found guilty of the murder charge, Leforce could be punished by imprisonment for life, life without the possibility of parole or death.

Leforce said eight words total (yes, yes sir, no sir) when he stood in front of Judge Louis Duel. At one time with Leforce looking down at the podium, Duel said, “Look at me when I’m talking to you.”

Duel after reading all three charges in full detail denied bail after stating Leforce was a flight risk and a danger to society.

The murder suspect was escorted from the Payne County Jail after being moved from the Logan County Jail for “liability issues.”

Authorities said LeForce shot and killed Wade, who was serving an eviction notice Tuesday morning. After shooting Wade, police said LeForce drove away in the deputy’s truck and carjacked a woman at gunpoint. LeForce was taken into custody after an hours-long manhunt.

Leforce’s next court date will be April 27 at 9 a.m.

Search members include OSBI special agents, Logan County Sheriff’s deputies, Payne County Sheriff’s deputies, Cashion Police officers, ATF agents and OHP troopers.

The search did not reveal the weapon.
