Video: Fire burns through west side church

A church on the west side of town is a total loss following an early morning fire.

The Guthrie Fire Department (GFD) was called out to the Guthrie Christian Church, located at 1802 W. Logan, just before midnight on Tuesday.

Police officers with the Guthrie Police Department arrived at the scene first and reported the fire in the back of the building near the electrical boxes.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

It did not take long for the 54-year-old building to quickly become engulfed with smoke and flames. Firefighters, who were assisted by the Oak Cliff and Crescent fire departments, needed over four hours to completely extinguish the flames.

Pastor Don Riepe fears everything is a complete loss, including his 49 years of ministry, including sermons, photos and keep sakes.

Ironically, the GFD’s brand new ladder truck arrived in town at 3 p.m. and was needed to help extinguish the flames from above.

There were no reports of any injuries at the scene.

I grew up in this church. Best childhood memories were here. It’s really sad to see it’s gone.
