On Tuesday, at 8:30 a.m. at the Highland Park swimming pool, Mayor Steve Gentling will begin a special program aimed at getting some exercise, shedding a few pounds and talking about some of the programs and future activities impacting our city. It’s called “Walk and Talk with the Mayor” and says it will be great fun.
Gentling noted, “Courtney McLemore, Health Coordinator with the Logan County Health Department, approached me recently concerning opportunities to promote healthy living and at the same time creating a venue to share what is going on around our very active community.”
Gentling said “Walk and Talk” just seemed like a natural fit, and is going to give it a try.
The initial opportunity will be on the Trails at Highland Park and after the walk (approximately one mile), Gentling and other walkers will have some time together in Highland Hall to have a cup of coffee and discuss what is going on around Guthrie.
“The highlighted topic on Tuesday (17th) will be the progress of the viaduct project and the proposed plans for the city park at the present Banner School site. I plan to make this a weekly event as long as the weather holds up and the citizens turn out. It should be fun, healthy and helpful.”
The mayor shared that the plans reflect rotating the walk among a number of city parks and highlighting various topics and city departments following the Tuesday morning walks.
