On February 6th, the Mulhall-Orlando FFA and 4-H members began the Logan County Fair with an Ag Mechanics contest. This is the fourth year this contest has been available for students to compete in. Mulhall-Orlando 4-H member Bridger Arrington was named Grand Champion with his firetruck bumper. FFA member Jace Taylor was named Bronze Medallion project with his firefighting skid. Several Mulhall Orlando FFA and 4-H members were Division winners: Bridger Arrington, Jace Taylor, and Paxton James. Reserve Division winner was Garrett Perrin.
Sheep and goats showed on Saturday, February 8th. Grand Champion Ewe went to Mulhall Orlando 4-H member Lincoln Oldenburg with his Hampshire Ewe. 4-H member Beckett Wiss was named Reserve Champion, and Lincoln Oldenburg also won Bronze Ewe. Grand Champion Market Lamb also went to Lincoln Oldenburg. The showmanship competition allows FFA and 4-H members to showcase their skills and demonstrate their proficiency and expertise in the show ring to the judge. Reserve Senior Showman was Lincoln Oldenburg, and Bronze Senior Showman was FFA member Miranda Klingaman. At the conclusion of the sheep show, the goats were ready to enter the ring. Grand Champion Doe was Jace Taylor, and Reserve Champion was Lincoln Oldenburg. Grand, Reserve, and Bronze Champion Market Goats were all three won by FFA member Garrett Schoonover. Fourth overall was Lincoln Oldenburg. Goat Showmanship began right after the goat show. The Reserve Senior Showman was Jace Taylor and the Bronze Senior Showman was Lincoln Oldenburg. Garrett Schoonover was Bronze Intermediate Showman.
On Sunday the 9th, cattle were ready to enter the ring. 4-H member Shawn Ferrell won Hereford Breed Champion with his class two Herford and FFA member Daegan Pool was named Reserve Breed Champion with his class one. FFA member Berkley McKay won the All-Other Breed (AOB) category with her class two heifer. Berkley McKay was also Breed Champion Commercial with her class four heifer. Grand Champion Heifer was Berkley McKay with her AOB and she also won Bronze Heifer with her Commercial Heifer. Steers were up next. Grand Champion Steer was FFA member Denver McKay, Reserve Champion Steer was Berkley McKay, and Bronze Steer was 4-H member Kamdyn McKay. The Senior Champion Showman was Daegan Pool, and the Intermediate Champion Showman was FFA member Emerson Pool.
The final species to show was swine. Mulhall-Orlando 4-H member Molly Gorrell was named Light Other Pure Breed Gilt Breed Champion. 4-H member Peyton Blehm was named Dark Other Pure Breed Gilt Breed Champion. Cole Gorrell, 4-H member, was named Spot Gilt Breed Champion. FFA member Kilee Blehm was named Light Cross Gilt Breed Champion. FFA member Fletcher Inman was the Dark Cross Gilt Breed Champion. Grand Champion Gilt was awarded to Fletcher Inman with his Dark Cross Gilt, and Bronze Gilt was awarded to Cole Gorrell with his Spot Gilt. Fourth overall was Kilee Blehm with her Light Cross. Barrows were next. Cole Gorrell was named Chester Barrow Breed Champion. FFA Member Landon Chartier was named AOB (Hereford) Reserve Breed Champion. Cole Gorrell was York Barrow Breed Champion. 4-H member Dax Inman was named Dark Cross Barrow Breed Champion. Reserve Grand Barrow was Dax Inman with his Dark Cross and Bronze Barrow was Berkley McKay with her Dark Cross.
At each species’ conclusion, the judge ordered the livestock into sale order. Thirty-one FFA and 4 H members from Mulhall-Orlando made it into the sale. The Premium Sale was held on Tuesday, February 11th, at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Congratulations to all of the FFA and 4-H members who competed in the Logan County Junior Livestock Show.
