The following is a spotlight on impact of rural development funding by the Logan County Economic Development Council. For more visit their website.

Zeco Machine, Inc., located in Oak Hill Industrial Park on Seward Road just east of I-35, specializes in precision components for original equipment manufacturers. View their company online.

Started by Tony Ziegelgruber in the early 1980s at a 4,000 square feet machine shop behind their house, the company has grown to 41,000 square feet, 40 skilled employees, and multiple CNC machines that provide a wide range of capabilities to meet their client’s needs in the oil and gas industries.

In 1998 Ziegelgruber purchased 80 acres on Seward Road with easy access to I-35 and began to develop the property into Oak Hill Industrial Park. The first step was to obtain a reliable source of water, but the property was located 5 miles from the local Rural Water District’s lines. In order to tap into the Rural Water District, he found that he would have to build the line for the connection. Instead, he petitioned the Water Resources Board for water rights so he could provide water to his business as well as other businesses that would move into the industrial park. That accomplished in 2000, he built Zeco’s first 10,000 square feet building.

ZecoSoon Tony saw the need for more space to accommodate CNC equipment, such as a CNC lathe that would be required for specialized jobs with high quality standards for close tolerance components. As Zeco’s business grew and clients expanded, CNC Lathes (as mentioned) and Mills, conventional lathes and mills, and 5-axis vertical machining centers were added as well as skilled machinists to increase capacity. The original 10,000 square feet building was gradually expanded to 21,000 square feet.

The company continued to excel at precision machining as the quality of its components increased. In 2012 to support their customers’ needs, a second 20,000 square feet building was built and equipment added to further increase capacity. A specialized directional drilling component supplier for Baker Hughes, Zeco is currently working with the company on the International Quality Standards System certification.

In addition to Zeco, Oak Hill Industrial Park has grown to include five additional thriving businesses, with a total of just under 200 stable jobs created since 2000. Oak Hill’s location and easy access to transportation corridors have proved to be attractive to companies looking to expand outside the metropolitan area.
