2018 tax-free weekend is here; list of tax exempt items

The school year is drawing closer and so is the annual tax free weekend.

Tax free weekend in Oklahoma will be Aug. 3-5 and applies to clothing and shoes.

The Guthrie Chamber of Commerce is reminding parents to first #ChooseGuthrie with all their shopping with local stores.

The tax free weekend, which has been ongoing since 2007 for Oklahoma, is intended to coincide with back-to-school shopping.

The weekend sale will begin at 12:01 a.m. August 3, and ends at midnight on August 5.

You can purchase an unlimited number of qualifying tax-free items during this time.

According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, all clothing and shoes individually priced under $100 will be tax free.

You should also expect to pay sales tax on fashion accessories such as jewelry, scarves, non-prescription eyeglasses and other personal adornments during the sales tax holiday weekend.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission lists the following clothing items as tax exempt:

  • Aprons, household and shop
  • Athletic supporters
  • Baby receiving blankets
  • Bathing suits and caps
  • Beach capes and coats
  • Belts and suspenders
  • Boots
  • Coats and jackets
  • Costumes
  • Diapers, children and adult, including disposable diapers
  • Ear muffs
  • Footlets
  • Formal wear
  • Garters and garter belts
  • Girdles
  • Gloves and mittens for general use
  • Hats and caps
  • Hosiery
  • Insoles for shoes
  • Lab coats
  • Neckties
  • Overshoes
  • Pantyhose
  • Rainwear
  • Rubber pants
  • Sandals
  • Scarves
  • Shoes and shoe laces
  • Slippers
  • Sneakers
  • Socks and stockings
  • Steel toed shoes
  • Underwear
  • Uniforms, athletic and non-athletic
  • Wedding apparel
