The two-time defending Class 5A track and cross country state champions collected an impressive win Friday afternoon. The BlueJays was one of 11 teams competing in the Midwest City meet.

Guthrie got an impressive outing from senior sprinter Emmanuel Robinson by winning three events to help propel the Jays over Norman North and nine other 6A schools. Guthrie and Shawnee were the only 5A teams to compete.

“Good way to start the season, coach Gary Boxley said. “We had some young athletes who did not place that had some good performances  and improvements.”

Robinson ran a 10.74 in the 100 meters, 14.34 in the 110 meter hurdles, and a 22.20 in the 200 meter run. All three runs were good for the top spot.

Fellow senior runner Zack Cates ran a 2.03 in the 800 to finish second. Cates finished second overall in last October’s cross country state meet. Hunter Sallee, who finished seventh at cross country state, finished second in the 1600 with a personal best time of 4.43. Cross country state champion, Taler Buck, of Deer Creek, came away with the top spot.

Zack Brown continues to improve each week by tossing the shot put 45-8 and the discus  135-8. Both were good for second place as well.

Other participants for the Jays include, Alex Dorio finishing third in the 800  with a 2.05, Devonte Mccully, who just joined the track in his senior year, was fifth in the 100 meter run in 11.15, and Walker Cross was sixth in the 1600 meters in a time of 4.57.

The BlueJay relay team of Cross, Sallee Dorio, and Cates took top honors with a time of 8.27.5.

For the Lady Jays, Erika Guerrero finished second in the pole vault while the 4×100  relay team of Guerrero, Kyra Macedo, Susie Unger, and Nicole Notz was 6th.

Guthrie will next compete at Edmond Memorial on March 25th with a start time of 3:00.
