McCully commits to East Central

Guthrie’s Devonte McCully’s break-out 2010 season on the gridiron for the BlueJay football squad will now benefit him in college football.

The 6’6 wide out has given his oral commitment to play football at East Central University in Ada.

Oral commitments are non-binding. McCully will make it official Wednesday morning inside Guthrie High School, at 9:00, on national signing day.

ECU, a NCAA Division II school, was 5-6 (4-1 in the Lone Star Conference) in the 2010 season. The Tigers are coached by Tim McCarty and the wide receivers coach is Dionte’ Dean.

McCully brought in 38 catches with 10 going for touchdowns to go with 720 yards. McCully forced opponents to give him as much attention as they were giving to fellow receiver and Missouri commit Kentrell Brothers. In the 2009 season, McCully had 12-catches, 140 yards, and three scores.

McCully became Guthrie’s 32nd All-State selection in school history by the Oklahoma Coaches Association. The game that features the West vs East is July 29, with a time and site to be determined. He has also invited to play for Oklahoma in the 74th Annual Oil Bowl Classic on June 11, 2011 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
