This presentation marks the official kick off of Celebration activities which will be observed April 14-19 in Guthrie America in recognition of the Land Run of 1889.

Commander Webster noted, “A tremendous amount of planning has already been accomplished to make this year’s event very, very special. We are really excited to be a part of the 86th annual Celebration. It is an exceptional, fun filled, family oriented week!  A chuck wagon feast and auction kicks off the Celebration on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds with lots of great food, special entertainment and terrific live and silent auctions. We will also honor the winner of the Downtown Merchants Window Decorating Contest and select the “best/most unique” beard and mustache during these festivities.”

Steve Gentling added, “A huge family focused carnival comes to town Wednesday thru Saturday and over 70 craft and food vendors line the streets of downtown Guthrie during that time. Guthrie Bluejay High School baseball teams face off on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. at Squires Field in downtown Guthrie, followed by the traditional “Old Timer Ball Game” with period uniforms and equipment.”

“That evening you can enjoy the big band sounds of the Air Force Flying High Band at the American Legion Ballroom. Over 200 classic cars and motorcycles will be parked on Oklahoma Avenue in downtown Guthrie for the spectacular “Gassers, Geezers and Hogs” event at 6PM Friday.”

“Friday night we are also hosting a good old fashioned toe tapping, foot stomping street dance. Saturday at noon the “Largest Parade in Oklahoma” marches through Downtown Guthrie and Saturday night features a rip roaring bronco busting rodeo at the fairgrounds starting at 7:30.”

“The ‘89er Celebration ends on Sunday afternoon  with a very special tribute in memory of the Murrah Bombing, church choir performances and a tremendous bluegrass concert  featuring the Byron Berline Band and the Kyle Dillingham and Horseshoe Road Band”.

Gentling concluded “And the best part is that just about all of these venues are FREE!” Information on these activities and many more may be found on the web site www.89erdays.com  or by calling 282-2589. You can also visit face book (89er days; 89er Sunday Concert ) for pictures, sharing and comments.”
