89er Days Committee selects top three button designs

The American Legion and the 2017 89er Days Committee reached out to Guthrie High School Art Teacher Lindsay Baker for the design of the 2017 button. From the numerous entries the committee then judged the drawings and picked a first, second and third place drawing. The committee awarded a total of $225 in prize money.

The 2017 button will feature a drawing (pictured above) done by Jacob Jones of Guthrie High School. Jones received $100 for his efforts. Skylar Causey was the runner-up and received $75 for her drawing and Cheyenne Young was the third place choice of the committee and received $50 for her efforts.

The theme of the 2017 event is “It Started Here”. The 2017 event is scheduled for April 18-22, 2017.

Due to the Noble Avenue Bridge construction that will be occurring during this year’s event, the committee will soon be announcing a new location for the 2017 carnival and minor changes to the parade route scheduled for April 22, 2017.

The committee has to downsize their vendor spaces for 2017. Vendors that have not yet applied for a 2017 space needs to contact the American Legion at 405-282-2589 as soon as possible.

The 2017 Parade Marshal will be announced in December.

This will be the 88th year of the weeklong celebration of the 1989 Land Run to Guthrie.
