The Guthrie Fire Department responded to 2900 S. Division at noon. Once they arrived, smoke could be seen leaving the front and rear of the home.

Fire crews tapped into the closest fire hydrant available, which turned out to be across the busy street.

The Guthrie Police Department and Logan County Emergency Manager directed traffic away from the road that had fire hoses in the roadway. Traffic was shut down between Industrial and Prairie Grove for approximately 55 minutes.

Fire Chief Eric Harlow says the fire appears to have been started by rechargeable batteries exploding.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but firefighters stayed on scene for several more minutes putting out hot spots.

The chief says the fire was kept to the attic, but the home sustained a significant amount of smoke and water damage.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.
