Averi Shelton makes unusual request for birthday presents

Most little girls celebrate their birthday with dolls and cake, but not Averi Shelton.

Averi’s love for animals prompted her to do something unusual. She gave up all her birthday presents to help make a difference for some animals in need.

The Free to Live Animal Sanctuary in, south Logan County, received over 500 pounds of dog food in honor of Averi turning ten-years-old. Her friends, family and church members delivered bags of dog food instead of exciting packages with big bows to her birthday party.

Matt Simeone, director of Free to Live, says “every bit helps!”

Averi is the daughter of Heath and Traci Shelton of Guthrie. She attends Guthrie Upper Elementary School and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.
