Bluejays take out Mustang 7-3

Reed Roberts went 2-3, sparking Bluejays to a 7-3 victory in seven innings over Mustang on Saturday at Squires to capture the Jays fifth straight win.

Guthrie Baseball LogoHe singled in the third inning and doubled in the sixth inning.Blaze Hastings handled Mustang’s lineup with ease, racking up five strikeouts.

Hastings allowed one earned run on seven hits and three walks over six innings.

Bluejays never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring one run on a groundout by Roberts.

Bluejays tacked on another two runs in the third. A ground out scored Roberts to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Zane Maltz’s single, bringing home Hastings.

Guthrie (7-1) piled on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Chappell scored after hitting into a fielder’s choice to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Robert’s double, scoring Camden Wilcott.

Three runs in the top of the seventh helped Mustang close its deficit to 7-3. , a steal of home by Tyler Goble, and a steal of home by Roberts sparked Mustang’s rally. Finally, Chappell got Cade Fulton to to end the game.
