Boy Scouts take in Jamboree on the Air

Bookmark and Share

Guthrie Boy Scout troops 587 and 850 and troop 396 from Mustang participated in Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) on Saturday.

JOTA station WB5BSA talked with Scouts from many nations including Italy, Japan and Switzerland.

Of those nations the topic of next years national scout jamboree drew comments of admiration and compliments.

A Rover Scout at JOTA Station JE5HAQ from Japan thought the BMX downhill biking activities will be “awesome.”

Boy Scouts from Hong Kong at station SK6BA were heard that they wish they could be at The Summit next summer.

Scouts from HB9S from the World Scout Bureau in Geneva, Switzerland noted they are looking forward to 2019 the year the world scout jamboree comes to the USA.

During an overpass of the International Space Station at 4:00 pm, we successfully sent a text message up and back down using the station’s amateur radio repeater.

It was a simple message of “Hello ISS from WB5BSA” which included our GPS position.
