Candidates for commissioner, sheriff set for public forum

Logan County voters will be going to the polls on June 28 for the primary election for two county offices, including District 2 Commissioner and Sheriff, but before that a candidate forum has been set to hear from all 10 candidates.

The forum for the Republican candidates is set for May 9 at 7 p.m. inside the American Legion Building, located at 123 N. First Street. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Candidates for County Commissioner District 2, include Don Spencer, Salome Vaughn and incumbent Michael Pearson.

Candidates for Sheriff are Damon R. Devereaux, Robert Hardee, Mike LaNoy, John W. Marshall, Ben McHand, Veronica Thomas and incumbent Jim Bauman.

Candidates unopposed for reelection are Troy Cole, County Clerk, and Cheryl Watts Smith, Court Clerk.

If a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in the June 28 election they will be declared the winner. If a candidate is unable to achieve 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will have a runoff in the August 23 election.

The forum is co-sponsored by the First Capital Republican Women (FCRW) and the Logan County Republican Party. FCRW is an affiliated group of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women with the mission of promoting Republican candidates and civic responsibility in the Guthrie and Logan County area.
