Constitutional “Sheriff Mack” coming on behalf of Sheriff Bauman

Logan County Sheriff Jim Bauman will host a book signing for a well-known, former Arizona sheriff with a message focused on liberty and the constitution.

Richard Mack is the former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona and is best known for his role in a lawsuit brought against the federal government of the United States which alleged that portions of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act violated the United States Constitution. He is a former lobbyist for Gun Owners of America and a two-time candidate for United States Congress.

In 2011 Mack founded the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA). The organization has a mission similar to Oath Keepers, encouraging members to refuse to enforce laws that they believe are unconstitutional.

According to the Washington Post, Mack said he had enlisted “several hundred” of the more than 3,000 sheriffs around the country as members of the CSPOA, and that hundreds more are sympathetic. At the association’s 2014 convention, dozens of sheriffs signed a declaration that they would not tolerate any federal agent who attempted to register firearms, arrest someone or seize property in their counties without their consent.

The event is set for Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at Community Church Community Center Building located at 512 E. Seward Road in Guthrie. The book signing is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
