The Guthrie Public Library is forgiving late fees for the next two months; all you have to do is exercise. You can select to work out at the YMCA or Anytime Fitness, for more details contact the library at 282-0050. The Guthrie Public Library has so much more to offer, like Japanese classes, Crochet classes, finding your way through taxes and starting your own business. You can also meet and greet local authors, this Tuesday, January 22 from 6:30 to 7:30p.m. You can meet the three authors of Caladiona: The Making of Dragons. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet these talented local authors! Refreshments will be provided.

There is a petition originating in Guthrie and working its way to states, to make parents aware of the extreme violence contained in many video games, music and video media. The concern is for the effect that this violence can have on their children’s developing mental health. These violent games are available to be purchased by anyone, including children. The massacre at Sandy Hook has prompted many concerned people to step back and take a look at what we are exposed to and what our children are exposed to. It is my understanding that the movie, music video, video gaming, and music industries are completely self-regulated with no oversight over the rating system and no consequences. If this petition were to reach 25,000 signatures it will end up at the State Capital in the hands of our representatives and senators.

The Logan County Aging Service is in dire need of people to deliver hot meals to folks who find it difficult to prepare food for themselves. The chamber delivers food to some of our friends every Friday. It’s extremely rewarding and doesn’t take much time out of your day. The Logan County Aging service feeds people at home and at Highland Hall from Monday through Friday at noon. If you can help them please contact Marlene at 282-1803.  .

This Wednesday’s Chamber Coffee, Jan. 23rd will be hosted by American Eagle Logan County Abstract at 200 Sigma Place! Come join us and see what is going on in town this month. Have a blessed week!
