City council, school board candidate filing set to begin December 3

Candidates for the Guthrie city council and mayor position, along with Board of Education candidates throughout Logan County, can begin filing their declaration of candidacy on December 3.

The filing period begins Monday, December 3, and continuing Tuesday (December 4) and Wednesday (December 5) starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m., according to Secretary of the County Election Board Sheleen Winscott.

All candidate filings will occur at the Logan County Election Board office, 224 E. Vilas, in Guthrie.

The following positions on the Guthrie city council up for re-election, include Mayor and a member in each of the three wards.

The mayor serves a two-year term, while council members serve a four-year term.

The municipal offices at stake in the City of Guthrie will be filled at the Primary Municipal Election scheduled February 12, 2019 and the General Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education Primary Election scheduled February 12, 2019 and the Board of Education General Election on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

School board candidates may file for the following offices:

Coyle School District—Office No. 4 a 5-year term

Mulhall-Orlando School District—Office No. 4 a 5-year term

Mulhall-Orlando School District—Office No. 3 an unexpired term

Crescent School District—Office No. 4 a 5-year term

Guthrie School District—Office No. 2 an unexpired term

Guthrie School District—Office No. 5 a 4-year term
