City of Guthrie announces major summer street paving project

The City of Guthrie will begin a citywide street paving and resurfacing project on June 10, with work expected to continue through July 25 as crews improve several major roadways throughout the community.

The Guthrie City Council approved the project on May 19 after accepting the lowest of four bids for the paving and resurfacing work recommended by the city’s Street Committee.

Roadways included in the project are:

College Avenue from Interstate 35 to Midwest Boulevard
East Oklahoma Avenue from Division Street to Broad Street
West Oklahoma Avenue from Division Street to First Street
West Harrison Avenue from Division Street to First Street
South Wentz Street from Oklahoma Avenue to Harrison Avenue
South First Street from Oklahoma Avenue to Harrison Avenue
East University Avenue from Chestnut Street to Interstate 35
Chestnut Street from University Avenue to the city limits.

Stryker Asphalt of Oklahoma City was selected for the project for $392,100.40.

City officials estimate each project location will take approximately four to five days to complete, depending on weather and other construction-related factors.

To reduce disruptions for businesses, residents, and visitors, work in the downtown area will be completed one block at a time. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures, traffic pattern changes, and limited access in construction zones throughout the project.

City officials are encouraging drivers to use caution in work areas and allow extra travel time while crews are on site.

The paving project is part of the city’s ongoing effort to maintain and improve transportation infrastructure while enhancing roadway safety and driving conditions throughout Guthrie.
