The Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport continues its expansion as the City of Guthrie has been awarded a state grant to help fund the construction of a new terminal building and aircraft apron.
The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics approved the funding during its July 15 meeting, paving the way for a $6.9 million project that will modernize one of Oklahoma’s busiest general aviation airports.
The project will be funded through a combination of federal, state and local dollars, including nearly $6 million in Federal Aviation Administration grant funding, $465,307.70 from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, and $465,307.71 in local matching funds shared equally by the Cities of Guthrie and Edmond.
Guthrie’s local contribution will be $232,653.85, with the City of Edmond providing the remaining half of the required local match.
The new terminal building and apron are designed to improve airport operations while providing a modern, welcoming facility for pilots, passengers, and visitors. The project follows the recent completion of the airport’s $5.7 million Taxiway Realignment and Lighting Project, which brought the airport into compliance with current Federal Aviation Administration design standards and prepared the site for future expansion.
“This project is another example of the value of investing in infrastructure that benefits our community today while preparing for future growth,” Guthrie Mayor Adam Ropp said. “The new terminal will enhance the airport’s functionality and create a welcoming gateway for those visiting and doing business in Guthrie.”
Construction is expected to begin following final grant approval and the issuance of a Notice to Proceed by the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics.
“We’re grateful for the partnership between the federal government, the State of Oklahoma, and the City of Edmond that made this project possible,” City Manager Eddie Faulkner said. “By leveraging those partnerships, Guthrie is able to make a lasting investment in our airport while keeping our local share manageable. This project will serve our community and the region for many years to come.”
The Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is jointly owned by the Cities of Guthrie and Edmond and continues to serve as an important transportation and economic development asset for north central Oklahoma.
