With the Fourth of July celebration here in Guthrie and across the nation, city officials are reminding citizens about an ordinance that keeps popping fireworks to a minimum within city limits.
Fireworks are allowed in city limits, but there is one stipulation that keeps the far majority from setting off fireworks.
In accordance with Section 8-21 of the Guthrie City Code, required permits will only be issued to landowners with five or more acres. In addition, fireworks are not allowed to be discharged on public property, which includes the Cottonwood Flats, Liberty Lake and Guthrie Lake.
Violators of the ordinance can have their fireworks confiscated and destroyed along with a fine of $200.
Permits can be purchased inside City Hall located at 121 N. 2nd Street.
Fireworks are allowed on July 3, 4 and 5 from the hours of 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
In 2014, the Guthrie city council amended the ordinance.
